Privacy Policy
CoughCare ("we", "us") is a tool that helps parents keep a record of their child's cough. Most of the information involved relates to a child's health and is therefore sensitive. Please read this policy in full before you start using the service.
It applies to the CoughCare app (iOS / Android) and to this website (about.coughcare.me and its subdomains).
1. What we collect
We collect only what the service needs. Anything marked optional can be skipped without losing the core functions.

2. Audio: what we do and what we don't
- No all-night recording. A short clip is captured only when the ambient sound triggers and the app thinks it hears a cough. At other times no audio is stored.
- No conversations. We do not record, store or upload speech, and we do not use it for any purpose.
- Three uses only: (1) building your cough record; (2) letting you listen back to clips; (3) syncing records across your devices.
- Upload timing: when a cough is detected, the clip is encrypted and uploaded (for sync and record keeping). Failed uploads are retried during the morning review.
- Model evaluation: we may use clips and review results with the account link removed to measure detection quality. If you would rather not, contact us and we will handle it within 15 working days.
- You can delete: deleting a record or your account also deletes the related clips from our servers.
3. How we use information
- Provide the service: records, listening back, trends, the visit summary, multi-device sync.
- Provide care suggestions based on the symptoms you check (for reference only, not medical advice).
- Keep the service secure and stable: authentication, troubleshooting, abuse prevention.
- Improve the product: aggregate usage statistics, detection accuracy, usability.
What we never do: sell your personal information; run personalised advertising; build commercial profiles from health data; use a child's audio for anything unrelated to recording.

5. Children's information
- We process the personal information of children under 14 only with guardian consent.
- The first launch of the app shows a consent screen; confirming it constitutes guardian consent.
- Guardians may view, correct or delete the child's profile and records at any time.
- We never use children's data for advertising or profiling.

6. Where and how long we store data
- Location: stored on Alibaba Cloud nodes in mainland China.
- Retention: for as long as your account exists. After you delete a record or your account, the data is removed from production within 30 days; backups roll over within the same 30 days.
- Logs: crash and runtime logs are kept for 6 months, then deleted.
7. Sharing, transfer and disclosure
- We share data only with the providers listed in section 4, as needed to run the service.
- We do not sell personal information or trade it in any form.
- In a merger or acquisition, the successor is bound by this policy and you will be notified.
- We disclose information only where required by law or by a competent authority following due process.
8. Your rights

9. Account deletion
You can delete your account in the app or by email. We verify and complete the deletion within 15 working days. After that the account, records, clips and profile are deleted and cannot be restored; logs required by law may be retained until the statutory period ends.
10. Security
- Encrypted transport (HTTPS / WSS) throughout.
- Server-side validation of sign-in credentials; expired tokens are cleared.
- Account-level data isolation and ownership checks in the API layer.
- Audio and records stored under access control and never made public.
- No system is perfectly secure; if an incident occurs we will notify you as required by law.
11. International users
The service primarily targets users in mainland China. If you use it elsewhere, your data is still processed and stored in mainland China, which means it is transferred there. Please use the service on that understanding; if you do not accept it, stop using the service and contact us to delete your data.
12. Changes
We update this policy as the product or the law changes and mark the new version and effective date here. For material changes to purposes, data types or sharing, we will ask for your consent again in the app.
